Single's Orthodox Networking Group (S.O.N.G.)

What is S.O.N.G.?

The Jewish Single's Orthodox Networking Group (S.O.N.G.) of Baltimore (Maryland) is a group of Jewish observant singles in their 20's and 30's. It's purpose is to help single Orthodox Jews to network, connect socially, support one another and mingle in a relaxed, casual environment.

S.O.N.G. seeks to fill the social void for observant singles, by sponsoring events and social activities geared towards the spectrum of the Orthodox community and sensitive to the needs and interests of observant singles in the area, bringing them together to meet and get to know one another. In the future, we hope to also have a cluster addressing the needs of singles in their 40's and beyond.

While it is impossible to satisfy every hashkafic nuance and difference within the range of Orthodox Jewish observance, S.O.N.G. events, unlike other Jewish "singles" social groups' events, are sensitive to halachah.

This means you can assume, among other things, that a S.O.N.G. event:

• Will not be held any fashion that would result in violation of Shabbos or Yom Tov
• Will be entirely kosher always
• Will not be scheduled in a way contrary to Jewish observances (e.g. respectful of The Three Weeks, etc.)
• Will ensure that any Torah-themed events are in consonnance with Orthodox haskafa and practice

S.O.N.G. News

As of this writing, S.O.N.G. no longer expects to be planning any further events, for a variety of reasons. For now, we are simply an e-mail list for local frum singles to stay "in-the-know". You can sign up for the S.O.N.G. list by clicking this link.

Currently, we are evaluating what sorts of events people would like held, and what scheduling is best for these events. Submit feedback to song@shidduchim.info.

The Maryland Renaissance Festival outing has been resheduled to Sunday, October 24th, 2004. This is the last weekend of the festival. We will meet at 10am in the Safeway parking lot, of the Safeway store at 201 Reisterstown Rd., Pikesville, MD 21208 at 10am. We will then divide up in carpools and travel together to the festival, located at 1821 Crownsville Rd, Annapolis, MD 21401. Cost is $17, less if you have discount (e.g. CVS card holders).

With the locust coming to the area, we may have to re-think outdoors events. Upcoming event ideas include a games night, and the start of the S.O.N.G. Café, which is basically an informal, drop-in and chat/nosh night at the new Cafe 921 at 921 Reisterstown Road. Meeting night hasn't been set yet, but may be either Wednesday or Thursday nights, from 8:00pm - 8:30pm (we can linger later, but they close the doors at 8:30pm).

Despite short notice, we had a good time at the "Time of Favor" film and afterwards at Kosher Bite. Hopefully, the weather will be more cooperative at our next event. Thanks to the brave few who braved the ice to come!

We had a good event last night at David Chu's, and much fun was had by all. We also got some great feedback for future event ideas, and will be starting planning for our next outing soon. If you'd like to be involved, be sure to join our mailing list.

We're actively looking into ways to expand into addressing the social and networking needs of Orthodox singles in their 40's and above. If you'd like to see this happen, or volunteer some effort to bring this about, please e-mail the S.O.N.G. Coordinator at song@shidduchim.info.
